A degree course followed at Camberwell college of Art and Crafts , where I discovered papermaking and pulp. I immediately felt in tune with the process, and I was able to experiment and express my work with a very different medium. it simply forced me to be bolder with drawing and painting, without being too entangled initially with details. I began to explore the endless possibilities of pulp, colours and added material to produce abstract and representational images, without loosing the delicate quality of paper.
The balance between making paper with its almost translucid and fine quality, and the use of pulp as a 'painting' medium can be challenging . Mishaps and accidents with the watery element of pulp can lead to adapt these, and explore the the transformation of the image further.
Drawing inspiration from patterns and colours in nature, but also responding to current social themes, as well as a strong interest in African, Arboriginal and African Art, I quickly make sketches of my surroundings to further elaborate with the use of different pulps ( cotton, linen, hemp, silk and added material).
Although some images have been sold privately through local exhibitions ( Anthony Penrose ) and galleries, one papermaking image was selected by Warner and Sons and commissioned in 4 colourways, to be printed on a cotton fabric ( sold through Harrods and the States). It was also selected by the Design centre (London) and the design magazine.
